Best Video Game Music: Opening Themes!

Best Video Game Music: Opening Themes!

Hey Legendary Looters, time to check out some more of my favourite music in video game history. These are all my opinion, but I am open to hearing new music that I may have missed. The only rules I’m following is 1 franchise per list and no song from a previous list can be used. So in no particular order, here’s my list!.

This list consists of music that is used in either an opening or during the start screen. There are a few songs that would have made this list that were used in previous lists that will be added as honorable mentions and it’ll be that way from today onwards.

Civilization 4 – Baba Yetu

With these lists I usually just select from a top 100ish somewhat at random but I decided I had no choice but to put this here. Baba Yetu is the first song from a Video Game to win a Grammy, which was at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards and it won “Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)”. That just goes to show how great this song is, and it’s also a good thing that the accompanying game is also awesome!.

Super Street Fighter 4 – The Next Door (Indestructible) (ft. Flo Rida)

This song had a mixed reception but personally I thought it was a really great song and adding Flo Rida to in for Super Street Fighter 4 was perfectly fitting. While my interest in fighting games has dwindled over the years, the music that comes from them can be amazing and some of the classics can still hit my nostalgia pretty hard. Hopefully Capcom keep the the music coming!.

Borderlands – Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked

The Borderlands franchise is one of my favourite franchises of all time (If you haven’t played “Tales from the Borderlands” then get on that, it has one of the best fight scenes ever in episode 4!) and most of the credit and opening themes are great but this is borderlands to me. I don’t know how many times I have heard this song but it is on a lot of my playlists. Also I’d like to say “Johnny Cash – God’s gonna cut you down”, would have been better for “Borderlands – The Pre-Sequel”.

Cave Story – Theme Song

I haven’t actually played this game, but while I was looking around for songs to add to a gaming list (for farming in MMO’s primarily), I came across this. The beginning reminds me a ton of the ending theme to Nerima Daikon Brothers and it’s a little Michael Jackson-like as well. I might have to check this game out just because of the song

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time – Title Screen

This had to be on the list, it’s a very well known track from the franchise. The Legend of Zelda has always had some of the best msuic going, I’m still sad I missed the chance to go see an orchestra play music from the series. Even though there are tons of great track, to me this is the best of it’s opening themes.

Honorable Mentions:

(Songs that were on previous lists)

Megaman III: Theme

Kingdom Hearts: Simple and Clean

Kingdom Hearts II: Dearly Beloved

I hope you all liked my list, next time we’ll be taking a look at (Of course) Ending Themes! Till next time!.
